Playing Catch Up

This past week was more of a learning thing than anything.  I haven't worked out in at least 5 years.  And I don't count walking or the time right after I got married that I got industrious and decided to use my husband's Total Gym.  Or the one time I use the Prenatal Yoga video.  Yes, I felt like the Total Gym and/or yoga would have worked but working out at home is sort of like taking an online class.  Or even studying for a test at home.  I'm just not disciplined enough to do it.  I can have the best intentions but then suddenly I start thinking wow...those baseboards are filthy...let me grab my Magic Eraser and take care of that.  No, I wouldn't normally be concerned with something such as the layer of grime built up dirt on my baseboard but give me something much more important at the time and I'll be damned if a little project I've been telling myself for months I need to do doesn't suddenly become more important.

Monday, I joined the gym.  I have some other friends who are trying to get fit and lose weight as well so we're doing the whole buddy system thing.  Tuesday, I took my first Zumba class.  I'm clumsy and uncoordinated but the instructor was great by telling me before class started that as long as I like to have fun then I'll enjoy the class.  Even if I don't know the routine or can't do some of the stuff.  And she was right.  I had a blast.  Which leads me into Wednesday.  Oh dear God, Wednesday.

I had a free personal training session.  It comes with the membership.  Awesome!  They showed me six different exercises and talk to me a little bit out nutrition and plateaus and what not.  Things I already know.  And then tried to sell me a personal training package.  I felt like I was at one of those time share gigs where you are shown the grounds and then taken back to a large room full of other people also being pressured into purchasing a time share.  It just isn't going to happen.  I've lost the weight before on my own.  I can do it again.  Well, this other class I wanted to try was right after my training session.  I almost went home but didn't want to wait a week to find out whether or not I wanted to keep taking the class.  I should have known by the name "Ripped" that it was A) not a good idea to go after my first session of weights and B) the name alone meant it was no Zumba.  I had jello legs 15 minutes in.  I learned that I can't plank to save my life .  And I woke up the next morning painfully stiff and sore.  Not a surface level sore like I've experienced in the past.  A genuine, deep down, muscle soreness.

Thursday will be my normal day off because I will be playing softball on those days but then I'll be right back in the saddle on Friday's.  Friday, I took a class called Pump.  It wasn't near as intense as I imagined.  Then again, it could have been the instructor.  But that whole planking business?  I've developed a love hate relationship.  I actually just realize it as I wrote this.  It forces you to use all of your abdominal muscles so that you get a full ab workout.  This is something I really want because ladies, having a baby does a number to your lower stomach.  I'm not going to lie.  And in order to defeat this monster I want a full ab workout.  Which is why I am super excited about the Monday evening class called "Ab Lab".  It's a 15 minute intense ab workout.  I haven't gone yet but I can't wait.

So today, "Pump" helped work the soreness out and I feel much better.  But, I did terrible with my water drinking.  It isn't that I drank other things.  It's that I can tell I didn't drink enough because I just had this dried out feeling.  It's hard to explain.  And I also had a light headache which I knew was from lack of liquids.  Oh, and I had Taco Bell for lunch and fried chicken with dinner.  The only reason why my dinner consisted of what it did was because the meal I cooked was a bust.  Nothing turned out right.  At all.  *ragey stab stab stupid Pinterest recipes that look good but suck*

I am vowing to make sure I drink more water tomorrow.  Mainly because I know drinking the water is essential to my goal but also because it makes me feel better.  And it keeps my mind off of wanting a Dr Pepper.  Hmmm.  DP I love you and miss you.

We're going to see the Rangers and Astros play tomorrow.  And I'm in dangerous territory rooting for the Astros to win.  So wish me and them luck. :)  And here's to doing better tomorrow.
