Oh Yeah!

give it 12 weeks...keep at it
I found this picture on Pinterest a few weeks ago and it's so true!  There's a guy that works in my office who decided about a year ago to make a change.  You mostly likely wouldn't recognize him today.  But he had been working out for a few months before anyone really realized he lost weight.

A friend from work who joined the gym the same time as I did is starting to see results herself . Even I am starting to see a slight change.  She only lost 2.4 pounds this past week and she's a little sad it wasn't more because she worked hard for those two pounds but she was able to put on clothes that were moved to the back of the closet because they were too small.  Huge steps!     Another example?  I noticed yesterday a lady that works upstairs in my friend has lost a bunch of weight.  And it's probably been at least two months since I've really paid attention.

My post work day ritual (if I don't go to the gym) involves coming home and immediately changing into something more comfortable.  It's usually the standard blue jeans and t-shirt.  I've had my current blue jeans forever.  They are worn, faded, slightly frayed and stretched out to fit me.  Though, lately they had started to fit me tighter than normal.  Ok, let me backtrack a moment.  I wore a skirt to work today.  It's not like me to dress this way but every once in a while I get a wild hair.  (I may or may not have needed to iron a pair of dress pants in order to avoid wearing said skirt and I may or may not have wanted to iron.)  I usually wear tights with this skirt because I have pasty white bird legs.  And let's face it...no one wants to see that.  So, I cover them up with black tights.  And while wearing said tights, I normally feel my big ol' thighs rubbing together.  Even when I was 140 pounds because although I weighed less I still had a lot of body fat.  My weight loss was based purely on no snacking and no sugar and only eating when hungry.  Yeah, you can obviously lose weight that way but your body slims and shapes up way better of you actually put some weights and cardio to the diet regiment.  Anyway, I felt like my thighs weren't so rubby today and got a little excited.  I had also noticed a slightly flatter stomach.  But the kicker was when I put on my trusty jeans this afternoon, had a lot less trouble getting them on and buttoning them and felt a lot less muffin top.  And then when I could tell, in my jeans, that my thighs were slimmer?  I had a self fangirl moment in my head.

Moral of the story?  It's working y'all!  The scale may say I've only lost about 7 pounds but my body says way differently.  I'm losing inches!!  It just started getting real.  I almost teared up at that last statement.  The hard work, the longer evenings, wanting to be home with my son but also needing this personal change more than anything while feeling guilty about missing an extra hour in the afternoon with him is making it worth while.  I'm really at the solid four week mark.  No one has noticed anything yet but I can't wait!

My husband has decided he wants to try the paleo diet.  The concept is that our bodies never evolved past the caveman days where the caveman had to gather his food to eat rather than cultivate it.  Supposedly, our bodies aren't really capable of digesting grains properly and we should be eating vegetables, animal protein and some fruits and nuts.  And we really shouldn't be eating processed foods what so ever.  I agree with this last statement 100%.  It all makes sense but I'm not sure how healthy the diet as a whole really is.  However, simply put, if it's convenient then don't eat it.  My household has gotten really bad about this.  If he really wants to do this then I'm for it even if it's just to get me back in the habit of cooking real food again.  He ordered a book today and has been researching it all day long so now I'll have even more exciting things to blog about.  Haha!

Results!  Yey!  Ok.  I'm done. Seriously.

  2. I loved paleo when I did it for a while last year, it helped me get down to my lowest weight. However, I ended up slacking off because it requires preparation and planning and I suck at being organized. You guys seem to have a pretty structured and organized household so I bet he'll have good luck with it. Even if you don't adhere to it 100% it's still healthier than a lot of eating plans. Good luck and congrats on the jeans!

  3. Kim, if I need to spam you and be mean to motivate you I will. Hahaha! Just kidding. I'm not mean. Well..all the time.

Becca, I'm not sure how structured we are but the hubster is a pretty creative cook. I don't think I've ever had anything he's made that I didn't like. And since he's off for the summer he has more time right now to decide what to eat. I'm not sure I'll be 100% but I want to be supportive for him. Afterall, it makes it a lot tougher to follow through it the other person in the house isn't as motivated as you. I look at it this way, if he supports my gym going then I'll support his food choices and do what I can to keep him from being tempted.
