The Time is Nigh!

It's officially less than a week until my big race.  My taper started last week but it's really tapering off this week.  Today's run is only five miles followed by two little three mile runs Tuesday and Wednesday.  I will do a quick shake out Friday afternoon, eat a pasta dinner and try to sleep well so I can be at the park by 6:30 for a group picture then get on with my race at 7:00.  Saturday morning is going to come super quick and super early.  I'll need to have my clothed laid out, breakfast planned and my running gear in the car ready to go the night before to make sure I don't leave late because I'm trying to get my act together at the last moment.

I've also already decided I will not go to my crossfit class Wednesday afternoon.  This past Wednesday was the first time I've been in about a month because of vacation and being sick.  I decided to really push myself to be a level three burn (basically try to keep up with the people who go all the time) and I did well but I was sore for four days afterwards.  My run Friday afternoon was miserable because my hamstrings and inner thighs were so sore.  I'd have put in a three mile run yesterday but after I got out in the backyard trying to mow and weedeat the jungle in our backyard it was too late by the time I finished.  But the yard work helped work out the soreness.  It's funny how more workouts are the cure for soreness. (I promise I'm not trying to see how many times I can insert the word sore or soreness in this paragraph.)  Basically, I can't afford a repeat next Saturday morning.  I'm already going to struggle on the last four miles so I'd prefer not to compound my running problems.

I bought some new swag yesterday for the race.  Our team shirts came in and I decided I needed something to match.  Afterall, you can never have enough workout gear.  That means I am also in the market for some 3/4 length yoga tights.  I came to the realization after Wednesday's workout that the waistline of normal workout shorts hurts the back a bit when doing floor ab exercises.  As in hurts to touch.  So, suggestions for where I can get some reasonably prices yoga tights are greatly appreciated.  (Note: Lulumon is a little more than I would like to pay.)

Lastly, I was tasked with 200 minutes of cardio this week from my trainer.  That would seem easy for someone training for a half marathon right?  Right!  Wrong...  It would be easy for someone who wasn't burnt out on training for said half.  I'm also counting my crossfit class as cardio though I'm not sure that's what she had in mind.  And I did work out in the yard but again that's probably questionable.  Haha!  I'll email her my food and exercise log this evening or tomorrow morning and wait for the ear reaming Monday afternoon.  I'm going into this with a positive outlook as you can obviously tell.  And she'll most likely freak out about my meals from Friday and Saturday.  Yesterday was real bad.  It was a legit cheat day.  I had a strawberry limeade with breakfast for crying out loud!  I thought it wouldn't be that bad on calories.  Some sprite, some strawberries, a little lime.  What would be devastatingly bad about that except the Sprite?  I suppose it was the strawberry slurry because 20oz is supposedly 320 calories.  Eep.  Then there were chili dogs for a late late dinner and this huge cobb salad for a late lunch that I deemed dinner and I realized around 6:00pm there was no going back on the day.  You have good days and bad days and you can't let a bad day (or two) bring you down.  The scale said I was another .2 down this morning.  I went ahead and logged it but in reality it's probably just some dehydration seeing as I didn't drink near enough water yesterday.

Today I'm going to work some more out in the yard and clean up this toddler war zone of a house to get more cardio in but I don't think I'll log the calories burned.  I don't need any excuses to eat more food.  I feel like those things should be treated as part of my normal activities.  I'll probably wait until the end of the day to log them so I am not tempted to eat those calories back.  You gotta do what you gotta do right?

So, long run, yard work, house work.  I've got my day cut out for me.  A few small runs this week, Monday's trainer workout, and making sure I am adequately hydrated are the goals for this week.  Oh, and not loading up on greasy foods.  That's terrible for a running.  I should know.  CoughMexicanFoodcough.

If you are in the area next Saturday morning and feel the need to cheer some folks on please come out to Bergfeld Park to encourage those of us running this huge race. It makes a world of difference.  Plus there will be booths and entertainment. The race kicks off at 7:00 and finishes at 11:00.  I hope to be finished at least an hour before that. Hint Hint.  Bring your signs, your pom poms, flags, megaphones, creative cheers, whatever floats your boat.  Check out tylerrunforautism.org for the route so you can pick out your spot along the course that will give you enough time to get back to the finish line before your favorite runner crosses it.

You don't have to be the fastest or strongest person to start making lifestyle changes.  You just have to start. So find something you love and get out there and do it!
