That Dreaded Accountability Thing

Accountability is something we all want (ok most of us want) and need but actually hate even though we supposedly work out with friends to help keep up accountable.  We hate someone asking if we went to the gym or if we got that run in.  And we most certainly hate someone policing what we eat.  The latter especially applies to me.  I love food.  Good food.  Tasty food.  And food that isn't so healthy.  I'm probably a foodie at heart.  I would most certainly do well on that Food Network show "The Best Thing I Ever Ate".

Which what landed me being required to email my food log to my trainer on a weekly basis.  Yep.  You read that right.  For the first time in my life someone is going to get mad at me for eating mexican food and hibachi meals four times a week.  Heh...

I'll admit it.  I'm a little terrified.  I don't have a problem with sweets.  That's not my weakness.  It's fatty, greasy foods.  Even if they are small portions and I stay within my calorie budget for the day.  She was floored when I told her it's taken me six months to lose 10 pounds.  Apparently that's too slow when it comes to weight loss.  She even shot me down when I told her I lost two pounds over vacation.  She called it water weight.  I didn't press the issue but I assume it's because someone my size would typically only lose a half to one pound a week if they ate right and exercised.  I thought water weight only came off in the beginning in large amounts but whatever.
What got me the most was that she doesn't remember what I looked like six months ago.  I bought pants while on vacation that are actually the same size as I was wearing before I gained all my weight back.  That's a size 10!  I'm extremely proud of myself.  She may not be proud of me but she didn't know me 10 pounds and two sizes ago.  She doesn't know how hard I've worked.  The picture to the right is me wearing one of those new pairs of jeans.  I have a picture of me on my phone somewhere and you can tell I am much, ahem..wider, back then than I am now.  So, she'll get my food log.  And I'll work on making better food choices but I won't forget how far I've come.

On the other hand, I'm trying to regain my running legs.  Being sick for two weeks really hurt my training.  Sunday's long run was so ridiculous I labeled it Worst. Run. Ever on runkeeper.  We trucked along pretty well for the first four and a half miles but by the time mile five and a half hit I couldn't push myself to take off running again.  Luckily, I wasn't alone.  We walked the remaining miles which was better than just quitting.  Not every run will be at your best.  It was disheartening but gave me drive to get back up to speed quicker.  My running buddy sent me the bottom left picture in the collage to the left and it's so true!

Today's four miler was much better.  It still wasn't my best but it was only two minutes longer than my normal which is quite a feat for not having run a single mile in two weeks.  It's encouraging to see how resilient my body is.  I'm a little worried about how half marathon race day will be since I'm suppose to peak in training this Sunday but I can't let it discourage me.  I will finish that race no matter what.  Even if it's walking.  And it's still more than what most people in the world have done.

I refuse to let a professional trainer who is practically a stranger discourage me.  I'm seven pounds from my goal weight and maybe with her help I can get even lower.  I'm less than a month from my big race with a 10k this weekend and a 5k the following weekend.  I'm in the best shape of my life and I actually walked out to the beach last week in my bathing suit without holding on for dear life to a towel wrapped around me.  I was proud of the way I looked.  I bought smaller, cuter clothes and I lose two pounds just by staying within my calorie budget.

Boom!  Beat that haters. :)

  1. Loved reading that! I post all our runs on my Instagram and I tag you...but you never get on there :(
Since I handed in my food log, I've had to make MORE changes. I was already eating VERY clean, but still too much sugar. EVEN from fruit. If my goal is to really lean out & get a shredded six pack(ish) I've really gotta buckle DOWN. I took me ONE YEAR to loose 10 pounds. And I've learned, it's really ALL diet. I've only really taken the "eating clean" thing very seriously in the past month. You only have to revamp your diet depending on what your goals are.

You are doing amazing. Slow progress is still progress. DEF don't let that trainer that doesn't KNOW YOU, get you down! Keep running! Lookin' forward to Saturday :)
