Blah! My 19 month old has been fighting a dry cough for a week that finally manifested itself into a full blown cold on Friday. He's done surprisingly well. Minimal fussiness. Clear snot. Mild cough. No rattling congestion (that I can tell). And of course I'm going into this experience blindly. This is the first time he's been legitimately sick and there isn't anything you can give anyone to make them better when it comes to colds. Colds just have to run their course. That doesn't mean I'm not trying little home remedies to easy his discomfort. i.e the whole Vick's on the bottom of their feet with socks on, tons of orange juice, plenty of rest, holding him when he's feeling yucky even when I feel like there are a million things to do.
That being said, my husband has the exact same thing at the exact same time. His may be slightly worse because he's snored so much the past two nights. The first night I slept in the guest room. Last night I toughed it out but I'm pretty sure I jabbed him in the side 100 times. Needless to say, I was pretty exhausted when my son woke up at 7:15 this morning.
Of course you have probably guessed what that means for me. Yep. I'm showing symptoms. I can already feel this mess trying to move down into my chest. My throat was scratchy yesterday evening and sore this morning but it's much better now. But I feel sinus pressure creeping in and I'm clearing my throat and couching. I would say a lot but that's over exaggerating. But it isn't just a little either.
I went to the store yesterday and bought a cart full of fresh vegetables to make a cold fighting juice. Will it work? I'm not sure. I've only consumed about eight ounces but I will definitely be making more. As well as juicing fresh oranges to get the maximum nutrients I can. I figure pasteurized orange juice probably takes some of the goodie out. Goodie being a technical term. I'm making sure everyone is staying well hydrated and I've already consumed 3,000mg of vitamin C and 4,000 IU of vitamin D supplements. I'll be taking more later today.
How will all of this affect my nine mile run today? (A run that was supposed to be 10 but I apparently can't read a training schedule and only mapped out nine. Heh...) I'm not sure. I've read it's ok to run as long as what ails you is above the neck and you don't have a temperature. Well, I'm symptom free of temperature but the below the neck is questionable. This cold is obviously trying to settle into my chest and of course my throat isn't 100% out of the woods but I don't want to miss this run. I already missed six miles earlier this week and to make sure I don't put myself behind and risk injury in training I really need to stay up with the miles. It may not bode well. I might actually cause more damage than if I were to just stay home but I like to live on the edge.
Ok not really. I just wanted to sound...edgy? Or crazy. Probably the latter.
I'm trying to hydrate well and I'll stash a half water half powerade mixture about halfway so we can refill our water bottles. I'm sure I'll feel like poo at the end but they say exercise boosts the immune system.
Look for my next post to be full of whiny regrets. :)
