So, my last post was a huge ventfest. So much so that I didn't even post my link on Facebook like I normally do. If you want to read below go ahead.
I worked most of last week on keeping my net calorie intake about 200 calories below my total budget (taking exercise into account of course because calories are fuel as well) and while also taking a major left turn (metaphorically speaking) with my meal size and frequency. Which is a nice segway into another miniature vent in a moment. I went from eating two to three larger meals a day to eating five small meals a day. I figured it would help me make better choices and keep me from starving by my next meal time. And for the most part it has done exactly that. Except on nights like tonight where I was starving, my husband was starving and I guess my kid was starving because we went out to eat Mexican food and no one could stop themselves from nearly licking the plate clean. And my son hardly ever eats. Being the toddler he is. And anyone who has or has ever had a toddler knows what I mean by that. I went over this evening. Do I sort of regret it? Yeah, but only sort of. It was so good and I've been so good. I even passed up a chocolate shake last night, Y'all! So, approximately 200 calories over isn't going to totally derail me. But no more until Saturday. Which I typically designate my cheat day because we often times do things with friends.
One good thing about switching my meals to all these little ones is that I'm cooking more often now. And by more often I mean I'm actually cooking instead of eating out every single meal. If I want filling food for fewer calories I can't eat Taco Bell all the time. A single taco would be one meal and it would leave me wanting more. I like to masticate.
All of that to say...in about a week and a half I've lost about a pound and a half. I'm finally a little over three pounds down total. And how long have I been doing this? It's like it all finally clicked. The running, the weight lifting, the meal size/frequency changing. It was like my body woke up from winter hibernation and said, "Oh, you're trying to lose weight? Let me help ya out." Thanks body. I really appreciate it.
Now that I am seeing numbers on the scale I'm noticing my dress pants fitting a little looser. Winning. My old jeans are still a ways off but I am on my way. I'm totally rejuvenated! I'm like...I can do this!
So my mini rant I mentioned early. You always hear people tell you to eat those smaller, more frequent meals. It's supposed to be so that your body never feels like you aren't going to feed it thus causing you to store more fat. I was always against this because I knew I wouldn't be hungry that many times a day. But what I wasn't thinking was I need to "snack" all day. And that's basically what I'm doing. And I guess there's some science to it since I actually lost weight this week.
But really. How frustrating can this all get? You're new to the whole gym, fitness, weight loss thing. You turn to the internet for tips and you see one website telling you to eat more often in smaller portions and then another telling you to only eat when you are hungry and then another saying how many carbs you should and shouldn't eat and so forth. You get the point. It's confusing! I've lost weight in the past doing the whole only eat when you are hungry thing. I was literally eating one large meal a day. Now, there was some occasional snacking but for the most part that was all I wanted to eat. But I wasn't working out. The game has changed. I've added cardio and weights to the equation and my body was like "nope...not gon do et". And I fought it and fought it and...you get the point. I was on the verge of basically saying screw it. But the running has really change the game for me as well. I'm more committed than I was six months ago. Heck...a month ago. A month ago I thought I could eat like I normally do and that running would take care of the rest. Wrong. Wrong, wrong, wrong. I haven't quite mastered the runner's diet thing yet with 50% carbs, 25% fat and 25% protein. It's more like 47% fat, 43% carbs, 20% protien. (Don't do my math...please. Just...look at the big picture. Yeah.) But in my mind low fat foods are higher in sugar. You're body needs both but I think it needs fat more than sugar. Someone please correct me if that logic is completely...illogical. (10 points to whoever gets the illogical reference. Please don't leave me looking like a nerd. I mean, I know I am one but...nevermind.) I digressed. Where was I? Oh, focus, commitment. Things of that nature. If you are like me and are struggling try the meal thing. It may be the trick you need to get going.
So, the point is, I'm seeing results on the scale!!
Ok, enough rambling.
